Effects of an Experience - Focused Prenatal Program on Perception of Childbirth Experience, Maternal Role Confidence, and Mother-to-Infant Attachment among Primipara

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to examine the impact of an experience - focused prenatal program on perception of childbirth experience, maternal role confidence, and mother-to-infant attachment of primipara in puerperium.
Methods: The study is quasi-experimental, using a non-equivalent control group pre- and post-test design. It was conducted from December 1, 2017 to March 28, 2018 at a women’s hospital in Korea. Of a total 55 participants that were recruited, 27 were assigned to the experimental group and 28 to the control group. The experimental group participated in a four-week program, once a week for 100 minutes at one time. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and independent t-tests using the SPSS WIN 27.0 program.
Results: The perception of childbirth experience (t=5.22, p<.001), maternal role confidence (t=?5.19, p<.001) and mother-to-infant attachment (t=?2.65, p<.001) had statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group.
Conclusion: Although this program is a prenatal program, it is effective in perception of childbirth experience, maternal roles confidence after delivery, and mother-to-infant attachment. Therefore, it can be expected to expand in practical application as an evidence-based prenatal program.
